A square has four equal sides

Inside nothing hides

Unlike a cube it is quite flat

Like the rug on which the cat sat

Its surface area is a square root

Quite dull, not a hoot

Take one side and multiply it by the same

Yes, quite dull still, what a shame

So if the side is 4cm long

I know, this is not much of a song

Multiply 4 by 4

You will get the surface area, I know what a bore!

4 times 4 is 16

It’s true I’m not being mean

So you end up with 16 little squares

No I’m not putting on airs!!

The final measurement is 16 cm²

Just so you know, in case you cared

It is A = a² whatever size the square

Try it yourself, if you dare!
